Switch off

Switch Off

I need time to refocus

Main Concept

After periods of focussed attention, students need free time to switch off

Switching off following focussed attention and work on a task is necessary. All of us lose concentration or focus at times. It can be helpful to allow a period, sometimes just a short time, to switch off, and then to start the task again.

Sometimes students need a longer period of Switch Off after completing an activity. They will appreciate having choices about what they might do in a break. In your classroom realistic choices might include computer time, reading a book, completing a puzzle, drawing a picture, or time to just sit quietly; however, as the class teacher you can provide an appropriate list of Switch Off options.
